For most of us, a profession is just one part of who we are.

For Dr Nalencia Naidoo, medicine is a big part of her life. But it certainly isn't the whole story. Outside the hospital, she's just as at home talking beauty and fashion on social media, planning her next trip, discovering a new restaurant or switching off with her fiance, friends, and family.

As a medical officer working in ENT, Nalencia's days move her between the clinic, theatre and the wards, often with an early start.
Outside the hospital, you'll find a very different side of her life playing out on Instagram and TikTok, where she shares everything from her life in medicine to beauty and style, sprinkled with everyday moments in between.

It's this balance that makes her such a natural fit for Rockport's "The Choice of Professionals".

Finding Her Place in Medicine

Nalencia's interest in medicine started with a fascination with the human body.

"I've always been drawn to how the human body works to heal itself," she says. "That, combined with being a driving force in someone's recovery, is what I love."

The variety of her profession is what keeps her engaged. "Every day presents its own challenge. I love that I get to apply my knowledge and be hands-on to solve problems," she says. “Medicine keeps you curious."

But when the workday ends, she is ready to step away from the hospital and into the rest of her life.

More Than Medicine

"I am multifaceted, and I love tapping into that."

It's probably the simplest way to describe Nalencia outside of work.

She's a self-confessed foodie, loves travelling and dressing up, and enjoys discovering new experiences.

But she's equally happy with life's quieter pleasures: "a good coffee, getting ready for dinner, a Pilates class or simply having a quiet Sunday at home."

One of her favourite ways to switch off after a busy day is a late-afternoon walk with her dog. There's only one rule: no phone.

"I just use the time to get out of my head and back into my body."

It's a small ritual, but one that says a lot about how she juggles a career that demands so much of her attention with a life outside it.

Finding Her Voice Online

Her content creation journey wasn't particularly planned. It happened organically, beginning with small glimpses of her life on TikTok and Instagram

What started casually has grown into a platform where she can be her full self while also connecting with people who share her interests.
"I love that it allows me to show all the different sides of who I am," she says.

Her feed might move from a skincare routine to fashion, travel or a glimpse into life as a doctor, but there's a deeper purpose behind some of what she shares too.

Nalencia enjoys sharing advice on navigating medicine while using her platform to promote safe health practices and debunking health misinformation.

For Nalencia, social media isn't about choosing between her professional and creative identities. It's a way of allowing both to exist.

Dressing for Wherever the Day Takes Her

That same flexibility carries through to her personal style.

She describes it as feminine, classic and polished, with a modern edge, although she admits it's evolving as she gets older. Becoming a doctor has also made her more intentional about what she wears.

"I do believe that with the title, there comes a certain responsibility to dress the part."

But dressing professionally doesn't always mean dressing formally.

A hospital day is usually scrubs and practical footwear. Dinner or an event is where she gets to be more feminine and have a little more fun with her wardrobe.

And shoes? They're hardly an afterthought.

"I'm a big shoe girl," she says. In fact, she often starts putting an outfit together with the shoes she wants to wear and builds from there.

And most exciting of all, there's a wedding to plan.

Her fiancé was her best friend long before they started dating, and she says she's most excited about "doing life with my best friend" – travelling, creating a home, growing together and hopefully having plenty of adventures along the way.

For someone with so many different interests, the most fitting thing about Nalencia is that she doesn't seem interested in putting herself into just one box.

Doctor. Creator. Traveller. Beauty lover. Foodie. Bride-to-be.

And, when the white coat comes off, simply herself.
